Winslow Outdoors, LLC
  Winslow Outdoors, LLC is a partnership between the Winslow brothers and their wives.  Their farming operation is located in Scotland Neck where they raise corn, soybeans, wheat and sod.  They manage approximately 3000 acres of diverse farmlands, forest, ponds, and wetlands in Halifax County.  They are innovative planners who see the potential to capitalize on the growing trends of the recreation industry toward heritage tourism in general and eco-tourism in particular.

  Early planning for the properties include such diverse activities as hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping, hiking, trail riding, nature observation, research and environmental education.  In addition to the native raptors and songbirds, large flocks of tundra swans are readily seen in the county and a flock numbering 1000 winter over on one of their area ponds.  Conservation techniques and sustainable farming practices have been implemented for many years and the Winslow family received the 1987 North Carolina Farm family Conservation Award and finished third nationally in this program.  Plans are being discussed to build a lodge that will house the tourist, hunters, students, and will also be available for retreats.

  Presently this business is in the early stages of producing a product called "compost tea" that will be applied and used in conjunction with Winslow Turf and also on other crops grown on the farming properties of Jack H. Winslow Farms, Inc.  There are plans to eventually market this product on a commercial basis.
